Help:Creating a Redirect to another Wiki Page

From SDU

Jump to: navigation, search

Creating a redirect is typically done when visitors of a page should be directed to another. The most common use is when items are known by various terms or when multiple concepts have been compiled on a single page. For example, while there could be a page for Marcos and a page for Events, there may actually be a single compiled page containing both Macros and Events. But if someone were to go to a Macro only page, a redirect could be added to automatically forward visitors of this page to the compiled page.

Also, when a page is moved, a redirect is automatically created on the original page.

  • On the page to be redirected from, remove all existing text and then add #redirect[[new page name]]
  • save the page.
  • click that link and you will be taken to the new page. All references to the old page will automatically redirect to this new page.

A Sandbox is available for you to practice adding redirects to pages in the SDU Library.
